Position Summary
As a Sr Software Engineer at Optum Technology, you will design, build, and maintain scalable, secure, and cloud-native microservices using Java and Spring Boot. In this role, you will partner with architects, product owners, business analysts, and QA teams to translate business requirements into robust technical solutions. You will provide technical guidance and mentorship to development teams, drive code quality and security standards, support CI/CD pipelines, troubleshoot production incidents, and leverage automated tools and AI-assisted development practices to elevate engineering efficiency and application reliability.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and deploy scalable, secure microservices and RESTful APIs using Java, Spring Boot, and cloud-native architectures
- Translate business requirements into robust technical designs, system architectures, and distributed solutions
- Provide technical guidance, conduct code reviews, enforce development standards, and mentor junior and mid-level software engineers
- Build and manage applications on cloud platforms (e.g., Azure or AWS) using containers, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, and automated deployments
- Implement unit, integration, and automated testing frameworks while identifying and remediating security vulnerabilities
- Monitor application health, troubleshoot production incidents, perform root cause analysis, and participate in on-call support to ensure high availability
- Evaluate emerging technologies, frameworks, and tools to drive continuous improvement, performance tuning, and engineering automation
- Leverage enterprise-approved AI tools to streamline workflows, automate tasks, evaluate technical trends, and drive engineering efficiency

Required Qualifications:
- 5+ years of professional software development experience building microservices and RESTful APIs using Java and Spring Boot
- 3+ years of experience working with distributed systems, cloud-native architectures, and relational or non-relational databases
- 3+ years of experience deploying and operating applications on cloud platforms (Azure or AWS) using container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes)
- 3+ years of experience supporting CI/CD pipelines, automated testing frameworks, and monitoring/observability tools
- 3+ years of experience leading design reviews, conducting code reviews, and providing technical guidance to software development teams
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience)
- Experience utilizing AI-assisted development tools and automation to optimize software engineering efficiency
- Experience in production incident troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and performance tuning for high-throughput healthcare applications

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you'll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $91,700 to $163,700 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
