We are seeking a Senior Medical Director, Population Health, who will help transform how healthcare is delivered by advancing population health strategies, clinical innovation, and evidence-based care models. This leader will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to develop and scale solutions that improve patient outcomes, enhance healthcare experiences, and reduce the total cost of care.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Clinical Sciences Institute and Centers of Excellence: Lead the multidisciplinary CSI team responsible for establishing, monitoring, and managing clinical criteria for COE network inclusion and for developing evidence-based clinical practice guidelines. Help identify opportunities to strengthen and expand the COE portfolio
- Care model design: Provide clinical expertise to the design and refinement of population health and care-management programs, including clinical criteria, safety considerations, measures of success, and how programs fit with care delivered in real-world clinical settings
- Population health: Use clinical, claims, utilization, and other available data to help product teams identify and prioritize populations where targeted interventions may improve care and outcomes
- Products, partnerships, and innovation: Provide clinical and analytic expertise to the evaluation and development of products, services, and partnerships, including their clinical effectiveness, safety, quality, and feasibility within the healthcare delivery system. Partner with the Optum Health Solutions Innovation team to help determine how new offerings should be developed, tested, refined, and implemented
- Clinical leadership: Represent the clinical perspective with clients, providers, health systems, executive leaders, and other stakeholders, and develop and support clinical talent across direct and matrixed teams

Required Qualifications:
- MD or DO with an active, unrestricted medical license and current ABMS or AOBS board certification
- 5+ years of clinical leadership experience, including managing teams and/or leading in a matrixed environment
- 3+ years of clinical practice experience post-residency and a solid understanding of how health care is delivered in real-world clinical settings
- 3+ years of experience in population health, care management, clinical program development, product strategy or evaluation, or related health care delivery work
- Experience working within health plans, health care delivery organizations, or other settings that provide a solid understanding of how care is organized, financed, and delivered
- Demonstrated solid analytic skills, including the ability to critically evaluate clinical evidence, data, and methodology and apply findings to the evaluation and development of clinical programs, products, services, and care models
- Demonstrated solid written and verbal communication skills and demonstrated ability to influence and work effectively across clinical, product, analytic, operational, and business teams
- Willingness to travel up to 25% as needed
Preferred Qualifications:
- MPH, fellowship, master's degree, or other advanced training in health services research, epidemiology, public health, outcomes research, biostatistics, or a related analytic field
- Experience developing evidence-based clinical guidelines, population health models, COE evaluation criteria, or related clinical decision frameworks
- Experience designing or evaluating programs for complex, high-risk, high-cost, rare, or specialty populations
- Experience evaluating clinical products, vendors, partnerships, or emerging care models
- Experience working across Commercial, Medicare, and/or Medicaid populations and different health care delivery and payment models

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you'll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $292,300 - $438,500 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
