Primary Responsibilities:

  • Design, build, and maintain scalable application and system integrations across internal platforms, external vendors, and healthcare partners
  • Lead EHR/EMR integrations with systems such as Epic, Cerner, and other clinical and administrative platforms
  • Develop and support integrations using FHIR APIs, RESTful services, and event-driven architectures
  • Implement and maintain HL7 v2/v3, FHIR R4, and CCD/C-CDA-based data exchange workflows
  • Collaborate with product, clinical, security, and compliance teams to ensure integrations meet healthcare interoperability and regulatory requirements
  • Ensure secure handling of PHI/PII in compliance with HIPAA, HITRUST, SOC 2, and internal security standards
  • Design integration patterns for real-time, near-real-time, and batch data exchange, including error handling, retries, and reconciliation
  • Build and maintain API gateways, middleware, and integration platforms (iPaaS, ESB, messaging systems)
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize production integrations for performance, reliability, and data quality
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, interface specifications, and operational runbooks
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and integration partners
  • Comply with the terms and conditions of the employment contract, company policies and procedures, and any and all directives (such as, but not limited to, transfer and/or re-assignment to different work locations, change in teams and/or work shifts, policies in regards to flexibility of work benefits and/or work environment, alternative work arrangements, and other decisions that may arise due to the changing business environment). The Company may adopt, vary or rescind these policies and directives in its absolute discretion and without any limitation (implied or otherwise) on its ability to do so

Required Qualifications:

  • Solid experience as an Application Engineer or Integration Engineer in complex enterprise environments
  • Solid experience with API-based integrations, including REST, JSON, OAuth2, and token-based authentication
  • Experience handling PHI/PII in compliance with HIPAA and healthcare security best practices
  • Experience with cloud-based integration architectures (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
  • Hands-on experience integrating EHR/EMR systems (Epic, Cerner, or similar healthcare platforms)
  • Deep knowledge of healthcare interoperability standards, including:
    • FHIR (R4 preferred)
    • HL7 v2/v3
    • CCD/C-CDA
  • Familiarity with security and compliance frameworks, including HITRUST and SOC 2
  • Proficiency in at least one backend language (e.g., Java, Python, C#, or similar)
  • Solid debugging, troubleshooting, and incident response skills for production systems


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Hands-on experience with integration platforms or middleware (e.g., Mirth/NextGen Connect, MuleSoft, Boomi, Kafka)
  • Experience designing high-availability, fault-tolerant integration pipelines
  • Experience in payer, provider, or life sciences environments
  • Experience supporting integrations at enterprise scale with SLAs and uptime requirements
  • Experience with Epic FHIR, SMART on FHIR, or vendor-specific integration frameworks
  • Knowledge of event-driven architectures and messaging systems
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, and DevOps practices
