Position Summary

As a Senior Software Developer on our Optum Rx Software Engineering team, you will design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain scalable full-stack applications using Node.js, React, and JavaScript within an AWS cloud environment. You will lead technical efforts in building cloud-native solutions with AWS Lambda and MySQL RDS, integrating AI-driven capabilities, and leveraging developer productivity tools to automate workflows and optimize application performance across our pharmacy services platform.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, test, debug, and maintain scalable full-stack web applications and services using Node.js, React, and JavaScript.
  • Architect, build, and deploy serverless microservices and cloud database solutions on Amazon Web Services (AWS), utilizing services such as AWS Lambda and MySQL RDS.
  • Design, develop, and deploy AI-powered features, tools, and automated solutions to address complex business and operational challenges while adhering to responsible AI guidelines.
  • Leverage enterprise-approved AI tools and modern development utilities to streamline workflows, automate testing, and drive continuous software delivery improvements.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and AI capabilities to inform solution architecture, system design, and strategic technical innovation.
  • Collaborate with product managers, UX designers, architects, and cross-functional teams to translate pharmacy and healthcare business requirements into robust technical solutions.
  • Drive code quality through continuous integration, peer code reviews, automated testing, and adherence to software engineering best practices.
  • Mentor team members and contribute to technical leadership and continuous process improvements across the organization.
  • Design, develop, and deploy AI-powered solutions to address complex business challenges with emphasis on responsible use of AI

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience in full-stack web application development using JavaScript and Node.js
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with building, deploying, and maintaining cloud applications. (Eg, AWS, GCP, Azure)
  • 3+ years of experience designing, building, and integrating RESTful APIs and microservices
  • 2+ years of experience with CI/CD tools, automated testing frameworks, and modern build pipelines
  • 1+ years of experience developing, integrating, or utilizing AI-driven tools, services, or models within software applications or developer workflows

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or 5+ years of software development experience
  • Experience integrating enterprise AI frameworks, machine learning APIs, or generative AI services
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration platforms (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes, AWS ECS/EKS)
  • Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, or AWS CDK
  • Experience working within an Agile/Scrum software development lifecycle
  • Pharmacy benefits management (PBM) or healthcare industry domain experience
  • Software engineering experience in full-stack web application development using React, Lambda, MySQL
  • Experience working on Mac OS based development tools and workflow
  • Experience with pharmacy, EHR, and healthcare system integrations is a plus

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you'll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $91,700 to $163,700 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
