As a Director Technology within Optum Health Financial Tech, you will lead technology management and general operations across key initiatives in Utilization Management and Care Management Solutions. You will work closely with senior leadership to translate strategic priorities into actionable plans, drive operational excellence, and facilitate executive readiness across complex healthcare technology platforms. In this role, you will leverage enterprise-approved AI tools and emerging technology trends to streamline daily workflows, remove operational barriers, and enhance strategic decision-making across the portfolio.

You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.

Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Use enterprise-approved AI tools to streamline workflows, automate tasks, and drive continuous improvement across strategic planning and operational rhythm
  • Evaluate emerging trends and AI capabilities to inform solution design, operational excellence, and strategic innovation
  • Translate Integrated Solutions Team strategic priorities into actionable plans with clear milestones, owners, and measures of success across Utilization Management and Care Management Solutions
  • Drive alignment across business, product, technology, and operational stakeholders to advance solution priorities, scalability, and affordability
  • Serve as a thought partner to senior leaders by pressure-testing assumptions, surfacing risks, and identifying growth opportunities
  • Own the end-to-end operating cadence (staff meetings, QBRs, MORs, budget cycles, and strategic reviews) and coordinate cross-functional initiatives across the portfolio
  • Lead special projects and time-sensitive business execution initiatives, providing structure and clarity to complex or ambiguous business problems
  • Create and refine executive-level content (briefs, narratives, operating reviews) for senior stakeholders to support decision-making and messaging alignment

Required Qualifications: 

  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience (e.g., Bachelor's degree or 7+ years of relevant technology/operations experience)
  • 7+ years of experience in strategy, operations, consulting, program management, or a Chief of Staff-type role
  • 3+ years of experience operating in a matrixed enterprise environment, driving cross-functional alignment and managing complex initiatives
  • 3+ years of experience simplifying complex information into concise narratives and executive-level presentations for senior leadership

Preferred Qualifications:  

  • Experience in healthcare, technology, or digital transformation environments
  • Demonstrated familiarity with Optum Tech operating models, Optum Health structure, or OT governance processes
  • Experience supporting executive leaders through large-scale transformations (such as AI-first initiatives, modernization, or workforce redesign)
  • Experience in management consulting or strategic advisory roles
  • Demonstrated familiarity with technology operating models and enterprise governance processes

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you'll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $134,600 - $230,800 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
