The Commercial Real Estate Relationship Manager will be responsible for maintaining and developing lending relationships to support the bank in building and maintaining its strong credit portfolio. This will involve working closely with current and potential lending partners, borrowers, bank credit administration, chief credit officers, the Credit Committee, and bank management. The Relationship Manager will source, review, and present loan requests to Credit Committee members for preliminary approval.

You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manage relationships with third-party lending partners  
  • Host and visit clients annually to deepen relationships, including as opportunities arise for conferences or site inspections associated with loan opportunities
  • Evaluate, recommend, and complete due diligence for new lending opportunities and relationships with new lending partners
  • Identify and implement operational efficiencies related to the lending product assigned
  • Present new loan opportunities to the Credit Committee for approval
  • Identify, evaluate, and implement efficiencies within the underwriting and closing function for the lending partners assigned
  • Collaborate with Credit Administration, Underwriters, and Operations team to further develop templates and processes
  • Create credit underwriting memos which analyze the credit request, the borrower, financial and credit information, repayment sources, risks and mitigation, collateral, and compliance with applicable regulations and policies  
  • Analyze and document loan modification requests
  • Be knowledgeable of policies, guidelines, procedures, legal documentation, regulations and systems applicable to the credit function  
  • Ensure that loan files and documentation are complete  
  • Make, recommend, and present credit decisions to credit administration and credit committee through both effective written and verbal communication
  • Assist with portfolio management and monitoring by ensuring documentation is received in a timely manner
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with internal and external clients

Required Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of experience analyzing business and personal financial statements associated with loan requests
  • 7+ years of experience underwriting commercial loans, including commercial real estate loans
  • 5+ years of experience working in credit or lending role with a commercial bank
  • 3+ years of experience making or recommending credit decisions on transactions > $5 million  
  • 3+ years of experience reviewing or negotiating commercial real estate loan documents
  • 2+ years of experience managing relationships with Borrowers or third-party lending partners
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 25% as needed

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Completion of a formal commercial credit training program
  • Experience working out problem loans. We don't have many, but the experience makes better lenders
  • Familiarity with loan syndications and loan participations

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The salary for this role will range from $112,700 to $193,200 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
