Position Summary

The Cyber Defense Team at Optum Insight is seeking a Security Engineer, Email Security to serve as the technical subject matter expert responsible for the design, standardization, implementation, and continuous improvement of enterprise email security capabilities. This role focuses on platform architecture, engineering governance, secure baseline management, and technology strategy. Working with advanced email protection technologies and AI-driven solutions, you will lead proof-of-concept evaluations, engineer platform integrations and telemetry automation, and establish robust technical standards that safeguard enterprise communications across our global health technology infrastructure.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Serve as the technical subject matter expert for enterprise email security, designing, building, and maintaining scalable and resilient email security architectures and platform infrastructure
• Establish and maintain enterprise engineering standards, secure configuration baselines, technical implementation standards, and architecture documentation
• Lead technical evaluations, proof-of-value (POV), and proof-of-concept (POC) initiatives for emerging email security capabilities, vendor offerings, and innovative tools
• Monitor and remediate configuration drift, conducting periodic reviews to ensure continuous alignment with security baselines and organizational governance
• Use enterprise-approved AI tools and scripting frameworks to streamline engineering workflows, automate administrative functions, and drive continuous capability maturity
• Evaluate emerging industry trends, threat patterns, and technology developments contributing to multi-year engineering roadmaps and strategic security initiatives
• Administer, maintain, and operate the CrowdStrike and Microsoft Defender for Endpoint platform for assigned clients
• Perform daily endpoint security checks, including sensor status, agent connectivity and policy compliance
• Manage and maintain EDR policies including - Prevention and Detection policies, Real-Time Protection, Attack Surface Reduction rules, Behavioral detection tuning
• Configure and manage exclusions, whitelisting and false-positive handling
• Create and maintain dashboards and reports for - Endpoint compliance, EDR metrics
• Comply with the terms and conditions of the employment contract, company policies and procedures, and any and all directives (such as, but not limited to, transfer and/or re-assignment to different work locations, change in teams and/or work shifts, policies in regards to flexibility of work benefits and/or work environment, alternative work arrangements, and other decisions that may arise due to the changing business environment). Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree or 4+ years of equivalent information security or software engineering experience
• 3+ years of hands-on experience designing, implementing, and administering enterprise email security technologies
• 3+ years of experience establishing engineering standards, secure configuration baselines, technical documentation, or hardening guides
• 3+ years of experience with e-mail authentication protocols (DMARC, DKIM, SPF) and advanced e-mail protection capabilities
• 2+ years of experience in information security engineering, security operations, or cyber defense engineering
• 2+ years of hands-on experience with enterprise security tools and platforms including SIEM, XDR, or XEM
• Knowledge of security frameworks NIST, CIS controls, MITRE ATT&CK

Preferred Qualifications:

• Professional cybersecurity certifications, industry certifications or relevant vendor certifications (Microsoft Certified Cybersecurity Architect, CrowdStrike CCFA/CCFR)
• Experience supporting large, complex, or highly regulated enterprise environments
• Experience leading proof-of-concept (POC) / proof-of-value (POV) technology evaluations and platform selection initiatives
• Experience with enterprise identity, endpoint, cloud, or AI governance frameworks
